FULL TIME PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER



The Town of Seekonk is seeking qualified applicants for the Full Time position of Public Safety Dispatcher. The Public Safety Dispatchers work under the Director of Communications and operate in a 24 hour a day operation. Qualified candidates must be available to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Additionally candidates at a minimum must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess strong written and oral communications skills, an ability to work well under stressful conditions with an inherent ability to multitask in emergency situations. Applicants must be able to pass an extensive criminal background investigation and complete a complex operational training program.  Preference will be given to those with prior emergency dispatch experience, who are currently certified as ENHANCED 911 TELECOMMUNICATORS in accordance with the provisions of MA 560 CMR 5.00 and who possess Power Phone EMD certification.

This is a union position which works a 4 day on 2 day off rotation. Salary range is $19.09 to $23.23 per hour with a competitive benefits package that includes Health/Dental insurance, Bristol County Retirement, Deferred Compensation, Educational Incentives and Longevity Pay.

                             SCHEDULE: 4 DAYS ON, 2 OFF.              Shift to be determined

Salary Range:   $44,317 + Shift Differential, if applicable

Grade: SO6D AFSCME, Local 3092 Members

Department Head:  Howard Mintz, Chief of Police

Position Responsibilities: Responsible for responding to emergency, 911 and other telephone, radio communications; fire, sewer and water, silent and intrusion alarms and other means of communication requests for assistance or service; for assessing, evaluating and dispatching fire, police, emergency medical personnel, ambulance services and other apparatus and equipment; for dispatching mutual aid, regional paramedic services; for maintaining incident records.

  Qualifications:  High School/GED and one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Knowledge of a community safety communications, police practices, operation of radio communications and dispatch, administrative office procedures and the operation of office equipment such as personal computers and computer software.  Candidates will be asked to successfully complete both a typing test with a passing score of 30 wpm, the dispatcher Proficiency test and the five week state sponsored training program

This months guest speaker will be FF/Paramedic Tony Pucino of the Seekonk Fire Department. Tony will be speaking on best practices for dispatchers and 911 call takers dealing with incidents involving individuals with Autism. Tony is a knowledgeable and sought after speaker on this topic in the Southeastern MA area and speaks from both personal and professional experiences.

There is ample parking available to the left side of the building
