Fwd: Training Opportunity in Springfield: August 2014

Attn fellow PSAP Directors and dispatchers,

I am inviting you and your staff to attend an incredible training opportunity in Springfield. We are hosting the Denise Amber Lee Foundation to put on their course, A Victim’s Plea: Meeting Expectations, in August. The attached flyer gives all the details and registration info. The class is MA State 911 Department Training grant approved, although it’s so early in the fiscal year, I hope people already have their applications and contracts done!

I have taken this class as the 8 hr version offered here, and a mini session at a conference a few years ago. This is, by far, the most motivational and profound class I have ever taken in my years as a Dispatcher and Supervisor. Nathan Lee presents, alongside a highly motivational Dispatch Supervisor from California, the story of his wife’s abduction, assault, and murder. He relives the haunting details of the multiple attempts she, and others in her community, made to get help through 911, and how the system failed her. Initially, I only wanted to offer this to PSAPs and Dispatchers, however I am accepting registrations from anyone who is interested in attending. This class will leave you shaken, but also motivated to make sure nothing like this ever happens again. From the calltaker/dispatcher, to the floor supervisor, to the Department Manager/Director, to the first responders in the field, to the Chief Elected Officials in the community, EVERYONE needs to hear Nathan’s message about training, protocols, communications between agencies, providing proper resources to the communications centers, etc. No one wants to believe this could happen in their town, but after seeing his presentation, you will leave wondering, could it? And what do I need to do to make it doesn’t?!

The class is being offered TWICE (so please only register for ONE of the two days), and  the room holds 100 people at each session. The last time this class was offered in MA, it was sponsored by MCSA and was held in Bolton, MA (more centrally located). There was a fee to attend (although it was reimbursable through the 911 Training Grant) and they still had about 160 people register. So a max of 200 over the two days seems possible. If the response is overwhelming, I might offer the class one more time in the Spring of 2015.

Any questions, feel free to contact me directly. Also, forward this email and the attachment to anyone you think might be interested in attending. Registration using the embedded links in the PDF flyer is the easiest way to do it.

Thank you,
Melissa Nazzaro
