Chief James McMorrow of the Wrentham Fire Department will join Deputy Fire Chief James Puleo of the Mansfield Fire Department.  Deputy Puleo will give an approximate 40 minute presentation on chemically assisted suicide and what dispatchers need to know while Chief McMorrow will be speaking about Mass DeCon Trailers and their use. 

They are planning on having Decon trailer available for viewing at the Wrentham Fire Station as well.

This State 911 Department approved Continuing Dispatch Education Class is offered through the Massachusetts Communications Supervisors Association in conjunction with the Orange County New York Division of Emergency Communications is presenting this Active Shooter Incidents for Telecommunicators class to provide training in the receipt and dispatch of Active Shooter Incidents.

This one-day course blends the knowledge and skill building information needed for a basic telecommunicator with the most up-to-date information on the technology, issues and history surrounding today's Active Shooter Incidents in the Public Safety community.

 

TOPICS COVERED:

  • History of Active Shooter Incidents
  • Dispatcher tactics to protect civilians
  • Definition of Active Shooter / Active Assailant 
  • Descriptive information gathering
  • The role of the telecommunicator   
  • Dispatcher tactics to protect responders
  • Evacuation and lockdown instructions       
  • Law Enforcement response
  • Secondary dangers (barricade, incendiary devices, etc) 
  • Tactical response and definitions        
  • The Aftermath of an Active Shooter Incident
  • Critical Incident Stress / Crisis Counseling 

INSTRUCTORS:

Captain Anthony WeedOrange County Sheriffs Department  and 
Melissa Alterio, Training Coordinator Orange County New York Division of Emergency Communications. Both contributed to writing an Active Shooter Protocol that is used throughout the county.
